The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed easing in the overall fear level, while the index remained in the &#8220;Extreme Fear&#8221; zone on Friday.
U.S. stocks settled higher on Friday, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 600 points during the session as investors welcomed upbeat bank earnings and cooler-than-expected inflation data, while largely shrugging off trade war concerns after China raised tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%.
Producer prices cooled to 2.7% year-over-year in March, well below the 3.3% consensus, while the monthly figure declined by 0.4% — the steepest drop since 2023.
JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) reported better-than-expected first-quarter EPS and revenues. Morgan Stanley (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MS#NYSE">MS</a>) reported a first-quarter 2025 EPS of $2.60, up from $2.02 a year ago and beating the consensus of $2.21.
Despite significant volatility last week, all three major averages recorded gains during the period. The S&amp;P 500 gained 5.7% to record its best week since November 2023, while the Nasdaq jumped 7.3%, notching its best week since November 2022. The Dow also jumped around 5% last week.
All sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a positive note, with energy, information technology, and materials stocks recording the biggest gains on Friday.
The Dow Jones closed higher by around 619 points to 40,212.71 on Friday. The S&amp;P 500 rose 1.81% to 5,363.36, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 2.06% to 16,724.46 during Friday's session.

At a current reading of 12.7, the index remained in the &#8220;Extreme Fear&#8221; zone on Friday, versus a prior reading of 8.3.
The Fear &amp; Greed Index is a measure of the current market sentiment. It is based on the premise that higher fear exerts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. The index is calculated based on seven equal-weighted indicators. The index ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 represents maximum fear and 100 signals maximum greediness.

With U.S. stock futures trading higher this morning on Monday, some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are as follows:

<li>Titan Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TTNP#NASDAQ">TTNP</a>) announced a $1 million private placement consisting of convertible preferred stock. Titan Pharmaceuticals shares jumped 9% to $4.00 in the after-hours trading session.</li>

Goldman Sachs, M&T Bank And 3 Stocks To Watch Heading Into Monday

Peter Thiel said the United States urgently needs an overhaul in its economic relationship with China, highlighting that China directly accounts for roughly a quarter of America&#8217;s trade deficit, with another quarter linked indirectly.
What Happened: Theil spoke with fellow Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale on the American Optimist podcast, discussing President Donald Trump's escalating tariff policy, where he framed the issue with China as both an economic and a geopolitical challenge.
"We need a very drastic reset with China … about a quarter of the US trade deficit is bilaterally with China and another quarter is indirectly with China," Thiel said. He suggested that while shifting production to other countries like Vietnam could help curb China's influence, such a move would require careful coordination and improvements in U.S. industrial policy.

Thiel also pointed out that economic ties with China are often viewed narrowly, omitting strategic risks: "There are ways that the economic relationship with China is fairly efficient … we don't really want a lot of these jobs in Wisconsin. But it's this geopolitical rivalry that's in the background that you have to factor in. The economists never factor it in properly with China."
Beyond manufacturing, Thiel hinted that artificial intelligence and automation may allow certain high-tech production lines to return to the U.S. but cautioned that any major reshoring effort would depend on regulatory changes and the cost-effectiveness of advanced machinery.

Palantir Co-Founder Peter Thiel Says America Needs 'Drastic Reset' With China, But So Do Others

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban addressed President Donald Trump&#8216;s tariff exemption strategy on electronics, suggesting it could generate billions in revenue for the United States, while also outlining the potential market shifts it could trigger.
What Happened: Cuban&#8217;s comments come amid the Trump administration&#8217;s back-and-forth on trade policies and their impact on the tech and manufacturing sectors.
According to Cuban, a potential exemption strategy would allow companies like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) and Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DELL#NYSE">DELL</a>), which manufacture finished products in China, to import their goods into the U.S. market by paying the existing 20% tariff. This, he argues, would generate substantial revenue for the U.S. government.
&#8220;I think I see his latest exemption logic. The 20pct still holds. So Let Apple et al bring in finished inventory if they pay the 20pct tariff. Also lets them go full speed in China and bring over as much finished goods inventory as they can. That's billions of revenue for the USA,&#8221; he said.
However, Cuban also highlights the potential consequences of such a policy. He points out that if components remain subject to tariffs, companies that import components and assemble or manufacture their products outside of China would be significantly disadvantaged.
This would lead to a potential market share shift, with companies manufacturing finished goods in China gaining a competitive edge.

Leading chip manufacturer Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) entered the Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) mining hardware market with its Blockscale chip line but ended it after only a year of operation.
What Happened: In April 2022, Intel launched Blockscale, a set of application-specific integrated circuits designed for cryptocurrency mining in proof-of-work networks. The semiconductor giant initially aimed to supply these chips to companies like Argo Blockchain and Block, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XYZ#NYSE">XYZ</a>)
But despite initial optimism, Intel <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/23/04/31864909/intel-signals-end-of-bitcoin-mining-chip-business-amid-cost-cutting-effort">discontinued the line</a> in April 2023. The form stopped taking new orders for the chips and stopped shipping in April 2024.
The decision could have been motivated by the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/bear-market">prolonged downturn</a> in the cryptocurrency industry, with Bitcoin trading 55% down from its 2021 highs.
However, things have changed remarkably since then.

Cut to April 2025, and Bitcoin was worth $84,307.89 a piece, marking an impressive 186% since Intel ended its mining chips. But that's not all.
The mining sector has also grown by leaps and bounds, with the total Bitcoin hash rate surging by more than 163%, <a href="https://www.coinwarz.com/mining/bitcoin/hashrate-chart">according </a>to Coinwarz data.&nbsp;
Typically, an increase in hash rate implies an increase in computational power needed to perform mining, which, in turn, suggests the entry of more miners into the network.
Interestingly, Intel shares moved in the opposite direction, plummeting 39%, according to the last closed price of $19.74.
