Through its tobacco subsidiaries, Altria maintains the leading position in cigarettes and smokeless tobacco in the United States and the number-two spot in machine-made cigars. The company's Marlboro brand is the leading cigarette brand in the US with 42% annual share in 2024. Beyond its core business, it holds an 8% interest in the world's largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev and a 41% stake in cannabis manufacturer Cronos. It also acquired vaping company Njoy Holdings in 2023 and operates a joint venture with Japan Tobacco in the heated tobacco category.

Investors are turning to dividend stocks to guard their portfolios against market volatility amid trade wars and recession risks. Data from <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/documents/research/research-sp500-dividend-aristocrats.pdf">S&amp;P Global </a>shows that from Dec. 29, 1989, through the end of February, the S&amp;P 500 Dividend Aristocrats outperformed the S&amp;P 500 in 66.67% of the months when the broader index posted a loss.
A few days ago, a dividend investor <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/dividends/comments/1jxqcdg/finally_reached_1m_4km_income_update_on_the_story/">shared</a> his income report and investing journey on r/Dividends, a Reddit community with over 700,000 followers. The portfolio screenshots shared by the investor on the social platform showed his monthly dividend income was roughly $3,960. The investor, around 40, said he started investing at the age of 20.

&nbsp;"At the time I never took it seriously and just putting in like 20-50$ a month," he said. "I ‘seriously' started at around 23-24 when I was putting in approx, 300$ on average (that was a huge for me back then), and now averaging at around 2-2.5k per month."
The investor said while it's difficult to see his portfolio suffering declines amid the current market environment, he's playing the "long game" and believes stocks will eventually go in a positive territory.&nbsp;
The investor said he's never been a "big spender" and has expenses of about €700 a month. He lives in Europe where cost of living is not "that high," he wrote.
"Other than that we have two old cars (20 and 15 years) &#8211; included in above expenses. We don't wear fancy clothes or spend money on impressing others (this can cost you a fortune)," he added.&nbsp;

President Donald Trump is <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-tariffs-automakers-factories-relief-25a400c98e02c01c8c54502384e267e1">expected</a> to unveil a new executive order on auto tariffs later today. Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent added that the administration is pursuing bilateral trade agreements with 17 major partners, excluding China.
The S&amp;P 500 climbed 0.4%, putting it on track for a sixth consecutive gain—its longest winning streak since November 2024.
In the bond market, U.S. Treasuries extended their rally, with yields falling for a sixth straight session. The yield on the 10-year benchmark dropped to 4.17%, marking a two-week low.
Gold prices slipped 0.6% to $3,325 per ounce, while WTI crude oil futures fell 2.4% to $60 per barrel, the lowest level in two weeks. Oil prices are under pressure from escalating global trade tensions and weaker U.S. economic data, and crude is now on track for a 15% decline in April—its steepest monthly drop since 2021.
Bitcoin traded little changed, around $95,000.

Altria Group Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MO#NYSE">MO</a>) shares are<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/movers"> trading higher on Tuesday</a> after the first-quarter full-year 2025 earnings.
The company reported a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/b45062408/altria-reports-2025-first-quarter-results-reaffirms-full-year-guidance">first-quarter FY25 sales decline of 5.7%</a> year-on-year to $5.26 billion, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $4.62 billion.
The decrease in revenue was primarily driven by lower net revenues in the smokeable products segment.
Revenue for smokeable products decreased by 5.8%, and oral tobacco products grew by 0.5%.
Smokeable products segment reported domestic cigarette shipment volume decrease of 13.7%, with Marlboro down 13.3%.
Gross profit fell 0.9% Y/Y to $3.24 billion. The operating income for the quarter plunged by 32.9% to $1.88 billion.

Adjusted EPS of $1.23 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">beat the consensus </a>estimate of $1.18. Altria paid dividends of $1.7 billion in the first quarter.
In the first quarter of 2025, the company repurchased 5.7 million shares at an average price of $56.97, for a total cost of $326 million.
As of March 31, 2025, Altria had $674 million remaining under the current authorized $1 billion share repurchase program, which is expected to be completed by the end of December.
Altria held $4.72 billion in cash and equivalents as of March-end and the total debt of Altria amounted to $26.05 billion.
"Our highly profitable traditional tobacco businesses performed well in a challenging environment in the first quarter," said CEO Billy Gifford.
Outlook: Altria raised FY25 adjusted EPS guidance from <a href="https://investor.altria.com/press-releases/news-details/2025/Altria-Reports-2024-Fourth-Quarter-and-Full-Year-Results-Provides-2025-Full-Year-Earnings-Guidance-Announces-New-1-Billion-Share-Repurchase-Program/default.aspx">$5.22–$5.37 </a>to $5.30–$5.45 versus an estimate of $5.32. 
This represents a growth rate of 2% to 5% from a base of $5.19 in 2024.
MO Price Action: Altria shares traded higher by 0.82% at $58.66 at last check on Tuesday.
