As the S&amp;P 500 index bounced back from its April lows, a technical expert highlights that the indicators point toward a real recovery as the index reversed its short-term downtrend, doubling its uptrend over the course of the recovery.

However, the index quickly recovered by May 29, where the uptrends doubled, standing at 60%, while downtrends accounted for 39%.
Adam Turnquist, the chief technical strategist at LPL Financial, explained that this change was led by the significant technical progress over the last month of May.
&#8220;The index has reversed a short-term downtrend and continues to hold above its recent price gap above the 200-day moving average (dma).&#8221;
He stated that a close above the May highs of 5,969 points should open the door for a retest of the prior high at 6,144 points.
&#8220;There is a growing list of technical evidence that suggests this recovery is real, and not a &#8216;bull trap&#8217; or &#8216;bear market rally.&#8217; For investors, this means dips above support should be used as buying opportunities,&#8221; he added.
This comes after the broader market wrapped up the month of May with a 6.2% gain, marking its best month since November 2023 and its best May since 1990.
Turnquist highlighted that when the index rallies 3% or more in May, historically, a month plagued by "Sell in May and Go Away" sentiment, the year-end returns average at 8.9%, with 73% of periods producing positive returns.

On Tuesday, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) CEO CC Wei said that while <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/04/44881525/tsmc-confident-amid-trump-tariff-turmoil-ceo-cc-wei-says-no-change-in-customer-behavior-despite-nvidia-h20-chip-curbs">U.S. tariffs are creating</a> some headwinds, robust demand for AI chips continues to exceed the company's supply capabilities.
What Happened: Speaking at TSMC's annual shareholder meeting in Hsinchu, Taiwan, Wei acknowledged that the tariffs imposed under President Donald Trump's trade policies are having an indirect impact, reported Reuters.
"Tariffs do have some impact on TSMC, but not directly. That's because tariffs are imposed on importers, not exporters," he said, adding that TSMC is an exporter.

Wei also denied reports that TSMC plans to build chip factories in the UAE and reaffirmed compliance with U.S. and Taiwanese regulations regarding export controls, particularly after halting shipments to China's Sophgo.

Elon Musk Is Tesla's 'Biggest Asset,' Says Dan Ives As He Reiterates His $2 Trillion Market Cap For TSLA Stock

Veteran investor, Arthur Richards Rule IV, better known as Rick Rule, is the latest expert to sound the alarm on the long-term stability of the U.S. Dollar, warning that decades of unchecked federal spending and unfunded liabilities could erode the greenback&#8217;s purchasing power over the next decade.
What Happened: Speaking with Kitco News over the weekend, Rule says that the U.S. Government&#8217;s $30 trillion on-balance-sheet debt is only the beginning. 
He highlights the $100 trillion in unfunded promises, such as Medicare, Social Security, and federal pensions, which takes the total liability burden far higher, and closer to the nation&#8217;s total household net worth at $141 trillion. This only leaves a $11 trillion buffer against household wealth, which he believes is closing quickly.

Both categories of liabilities are growing by around $2 trillion per year, Rule says. At that pace, the remaining margin will disappear within five years, raising questions about long-term solvency.
Rule believes that the country, at its current fiscal state, can no longer service its obligations such as social security, Medicare, and pensions, while adding that "the only viable path is to allow the dollar to decline." &#8220;I believe because of this $100 trillion in unfunded entitlement liabilities that the U.S. dollar will lose 75% of its purchasing power over 10 years,&#8221; he says, pointing to the 1970s as precedent, when U.S. inflation wiped out 75% of the dollar's purchasing power in a single decade. The period also saw gold prices rise nearly 30-fold.
Speaking on gold, Rule made a very bullish case for the yellow metal, saying that he doesn&#8217;t own gold because he thinks it can get to $3,500 an ounce, he says, &#8220;I own gold because I'm afraid it's going to $12,000,&#8221; because &#8220;arithmetically, it makes absolute sense.&#8221;

What Happened: On Monday, more than 300 Microsoft employees were told that their roles had been cut, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-02/microsoft-layoffs-continue-with-hundreds-more-cut">reported</a> Bloomberg, citing a Washington state notice.&nbsp;
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed this development to the publication, saying, "We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace."
These layoffs follow the roughly 6,000 cuts Microsoft announced last month.

As per the report, while the specific roles affected have not been determined, previous layoffs primarily impacted software engineers.
The tech giant had about 228,000 full-time employees as of June 2024, out of which 55% were based in the U.S.

Microsoft Fires Hundreds More Workers Amid AI-Fueled Growth, Calls It Positioning The Company For 'Success'

Peter Schiff&nbsp;said Monday that his teachings on economics inadvertently led many to invest in Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), despite his advice against it.
What Happened: Schiff shared&nbsp;his experience at the Bitcoin&nbsp;2025 conference on his YouTube podcast. He stated that many attendees credited him as the reason they bought the leading cryptocurrency. 
&#8220;Everybody was telling me, almost to a person, that I was the reason that they bought Bitcoin and they credit me, even though that was not my intention,&#8221; the staunch Bitcoin critic said.

&#8220;But the reason people were telling me they bought Bitcoin was because I taught them about economics. They learned economics from me, they learned about sound money they began to question the Fed,&#8221; Schiff added.
According to Schiff, David Bailey, who runs the conference, also credited the Bitcoin skeptic for his decision to buy Bitcoin.
&#8220;It wasn&#8217;t my intention. It&#8217;s kind of like a government program. It was an unintended consequence,&#8221; Schiff said.
