Last month, an investor from Germany <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/dividends/comments/1jhijv4/felt_like_sharing_34m/">shared</a> his income report and portfolio details on r/Dividends, a Reddit community with more than 700,000 followers.&nbsp; The screenshots shared by the investor, 34, showed his monthly dividend income stood at €3,120 ($3,490). Though a long-term deal is far from certain, even the potential for diplomatic breakthrough has moderated concerns about supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz — a critical chokepoint for global oil flows. Meanwhile, it also raised questions about whether Iranian crude oil might return to the market in significant quantities, making an already tenuous supply-demand balance even more complicated.
The Bigger Picture
The oil price rally, though propelled by newsworthy catalysts such as tariff delays and diplomatic talks, is confronted with structural headwinds. Nevertheless, ETF investors seem to be content to ride the volatility, particularly with equities mounting a parallel rebound and safe-haven assets lagging.
Investors are now focusing keenly on rig count trends and Q2 CapEx releases to assess the real-world effect of the Brent bounce. According to recent data by the Energy Information Administration, Baker Hughes found that for the week ending April 1, the natural gas rig count dropped to 96 rigs from 103 rigs in the prior week. Typically, lower rigs mean tightened supply, which in turn means upward pressure on oil prices.
On the other hand, banks slashed their price forecasts, with JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. now seeing Brent at $66 this year and Goldman Sachs expecting an average of $63, as the crude market continues to be poised to encounter substantial surpluses.

Crude oil prices have come under pressure from ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China, which have cast uncertainty over global growth and fuel demand. Last week, Energy Secretary Chris Wright spoke positively about the oil and shale industry despite the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44667862/oil-crashes-to-60-per-barrel-as-recession-fears-grow">steep drop in prices.</a> 
What to Know: Wright, a former CEO of Liberty Energy, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LBRT#NYSE">LBRT</a>) with firsthand experience in the shale sector, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/us-energy-secretary-bullish-on-shale-despite-plunging-oil-prices-.html">told</a> CNBC in an interview that he remains optimistic about the industry&#8217;s ability to adapt and prosper. 
"The U.S. shale industry is going to survive and thrive," Wright said.
"But of course, investment decisions are going to be tailored if prices stay this low for a long period of time. But I'm quite bullish on the U.S. industry," he added.&nbsp;

Crude oil prices are down nearly 27% in 2025, trading below the key $65 per barrel threshold identified by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas as the break-even point for Permian Basin operators like Chevron Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) and Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>). 
Still, Wright highlighted the oil industry's ability to innovate and referenced the 2014–2016 downturn when shale production surged amid weak demand.&nbsp;
"In 2015 and 2016 oil prices twice hit $28, and what happened? What did the U.S. shale industry do in that time — innovate, get smarter, drive their costs down, and that's what's happening right now," Wright said.
What Else: Energy analysts at Goldman Sachs recently reduced their oil forecasts for December 2025 to $62 per barrel for Brent and $58 for WTI, with additional downside expected in 2026. The analysts noted GDP downgrades and forecasts of a "stagnating" U.S. economy.&nbsp;
Adding to the pressure on oil prices, OPEC+ oil producers recently announced a massive production increase to 411,000 barrels per day next month. Meanwhile, the group <a href="https://www.opec.org/monthly-oil-market-report.html">cut its</a> 2025–26 global oil demand growth forecast on Monday by 100,000 barrels per day due to slower growth resulting from Trump's tariffs. 
OPEC said it expects 1.3 million barrels per day growth each year, still above estimates from others like the EIA of 900,000 and Goldman Sachs estimate of 500,000.&nbsp;
The United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>), which tracks the daily price movements of light, sweet crude oil, was up 0.43% at the time of publication on Monday.

Shares of energy companies are trading lower as stocks pull back after surging Wednesday following President Trump's tariff pause announcement.

Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/OXY#NYSE">OXY</a>) announced on Wednesday that it realized higher oil and gas production prices in the first quarter of 2025 than <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/oil">in the previous quarter</a>.
The company <a href="https://occidentalpetroleum.gcs-web.com/static-files/f2dd6055-d76f-4c4f-bfa9-587e784a7c95">reported</a> that its worldwide average realized oil price rose to $71.07 per barrel, up from $69.73 in the final quarter of 2024. Natural gas prices also significantly increased, averaging $2.30 per thousand cubic feet, compared to $1.26 previously.
The average realized price for natural gas liquids climbed approximately 19%, rising from $21.80 to $25.94 per barrel.

Occidental Reports Higher Q1 Prices As Tariff Tensions Shake Oil Market

Oil and gas stocks such as APA Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/APA#NASDAQ">APA</a>), BP PLC (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>) and Exxon Mobil Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) are trading higher Wednesday after President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for countries that have not retaliated against <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44720006/markets-take-off-as-trump-announces-90-day-tariff-pause-for-non-retaliating-nations-slaps-china-with-125-duty">U.S. trade measures. </a>
What To Know: The move triggered a broad rally across energy names, driven by expectations that easing trade tensions would boost global demand and reduce export-related risks for U.S. producers. Several oil companies that have significant exposure to global oil markets have been under pressure due to fears of disrupted supply chains and reduced overseas demand. Trump&#8217;s decision to isolate China while granting tariff relief to U.S. allies shifted sentiment sharply.
The tariff pause was seen as a positive for crude demand outlook, as reduced trade friction could support broader economic activity. Energy stocks, which had lagged the broader market in recent weeks, responded to the shift in policy with a surge in buying volume, reversing recent weakness.
The focus now turns to how China will respond to the sharp 125% hike on its exports and whether energy markets will see any retaliatory impact. For now, the policy pivot has restored confidence across the oil and gas space.
Price Action: APA Corporation shares closed Wednesday up 19.10% to $16.71, Exxon Mobil shares rose 4.99% to $105.80 and BP advanced 6.81% to $27.90, according to Benzinga Pro.

Shares of oil and gas companies are trading higher following President Trump's decision to implement a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for all countries except China.

Despite President Donald Trump&#8216;s tariffs sending shockwaves through the stock market, one analyst believes the domestic automotive industry in the U.S. is poised for a surprising boost. Here is a list of potential beneficiaries and losers of the new trade policy. 
What Happened: While the tariffs of U.S. trading partners have had a damaging effect on the stock market, they have also fueled the fear of a slowdown in the economy and a possible recession.
According to John Murillo, the chief dealing officer at a global fintech solutions provider for financial institutions, B2BROKER, Trump's tariffs preemptively target metals, cars, and high-tech imports into the U.S., which seemingly spells trouble, &#8220;specifically for these sectors.&#8221;
However, he goes on to add that the &#8220;devil is always hiding in the details,&#8221; and sees the protectionist measures as a silver lining for the American automotive sector, predicting increased demand due to reduced foreign competition.
&#8220;Since tariffs are imposed on foreign cars competing with U.S. cars for consumer preferences, it will be precisely the American automotive industry that reaps the fruit of this protectionism,&#8221; Murillo told Benzinga.
Murillo states that despite the initial negative reaction following a cut in dividends by the Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) executives, &#8220;Ford and General Motors Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) will see higher demand on their production over time, which will offset all current inconveniences with reorientation for alternative foreign supply parts producers.&#8221;
&#8220;We must also not forget Donald Trump&#8216;s bet on the American oil industry,&#8221; adds Murillo, stating that he will &#8220;zealously protect American businesses, and we know that conventional energy is the subject of his special focus.&#8221; 
&#8220;He is expected to fight with big oil companies worldwide in every possible way, and this is very positive news for the U.S. oil stocks despite the current softness of oil prices,&#8221; which will especially benefit classic oil producers like Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) and Chevron Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>), according to Murillo.

Why It Matters: Tariffs are considered protectionist policies as they are taxes that a government levies on imported goods. The primary objective of tariffs is to protect domestic industries that produce the same or similar goods.
However, they could lead to an increase in the prices of goods as the cost of producing the goods domestically increases.
Murillo also highlights the companies that will lose out because of these policies in the long run.
&#8220;The most evident losers will be retail stocks, such as Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COST#NASDAQ">COST</a>) and Walmart Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>), which traditionally formed most of their margins by arbitraging Chinese wholesale versus U.S. domestic retail prices.&#8221;
&#8220;PC, server, and phone equipment manufacturers like HP Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HPQ#NYSE">HPQ</a>), Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CSCO#NASDAQ">CSCO</a>), and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) will also feel the heat because many essential parts have been delivered from China for decades,&#8221; he adds.
