Galmed plans to add drug developments that target cardiac fibrosis and colorectal and hepatic cancers. The company will release data from the studies during the fourth quarter.
"The conditions Galmed plans to focus upon in the coming years are major public health problems impacting millions of people worldwide and posing huge financial burden on health providers," Galmed CEO Allen Baharaff said.

Data from StatCan reveals that sales for 2Q24 were down 4% year-over-year (YoY), contributing to a 1.3% decline year-to-date (YTD) compared to 14% growth in 1H23. In contrast, Hifyre data shows a 6% YTD growth through August.

This decline reflects changing consumer preferences, as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/06/39508155/900-pre-rolls-per-hour-upgrade-from-manual-to-automatic-speeds-up-joint-production-enhances-marg">pre-rolls</a> and vapes gain market share.
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/23/09/34625368/nasa-precision-meets-cannabis-roi-pre-rolled-infusion-robots-revolutionizing-indust">Pre-rolls</a> now represent 34% of total sales, up from 27% in 1Q23 and 17% in 1Q21. The segment grew 11% year-over-year (YoY) in the June-August period, driven by consumer demand for convenience. Decibel leads with a 10.4% share, though it fell to 9.7% in August. Tilray holds 8.3%, and Organigram has 6.4%.

Other formats, like concentrates, edibles, beverages, and oils, hold smaller shares. Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DB#NYSE">DB</a>) shares are trading higher today. The company <a href="https://www.db.com/news/detail/20240821-deutsche-bank-reaches-settlements-with-a-large-share-of-the-plaintiffs-in-postbank-takeover-litigation-matter-media-release?language_id=1">stated</a> that it has made substantial progress in its discussions with plaintiffs regarding the litigation over the Postbank takeover and the offer price paid to former Postbank shareholders.
On Thursday, the company reached agreements with over 80 plaintiffs, covering nearly 60% of the total claims.
The settlements are based on an offer of €31 per share, as proposed by the bank, and include a settlement with the largest individual plaintiff, who represents around one-third of all claims.
Elliott Investment Management is receiving nearly €200 million ($222 million) from Deutsche Bank to resolve the long-running legal dispute, Bloomberg <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/mergers-and-acquisitions/elliott-gets-200-million-payday-from-deutsche-bank-settlement" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a>, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The report mentioned that the activist hedge fund was the largest plaintiff in the litigation over the Postbank takeover.
Deutsche Bank expects the settlement agreements reached so far to utilize around 45% of the total provisions set aside for the claims covered by these agreements.
The remaining provisions related to these plaintiffs will be released, which will have a positive impact of about €430 million on the bank&#8217;s pre-tax profit in the third quarter.
If Deutsche Bank reaches settlement agreements with additional plaintiffs, it could lead to further positive impacts on the total provisions set aside for the litigation.
In July, the bank reported first-half <a target="_blank" href="https://www.db.com/news/detail/20240724-deutsche-bank-reports-on-the-second-quarter-of-2024?language_id=1" rel="noreferrer noopener">2024</a> net revenue growth of 2% to €15.4 billion, with profit before tax at €2.4 billion-€3.8 billion excluding the Postbank litigation provision compared to €3.3 billion in the first half of 2023.

What's Going On With Deutsche Bank Stock Friday?

Deutsche Bank (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/db#NYSE">DB</a>) has achieved notable progress in talks with claimants involved in the legal dispute regarding its takeover of Postbank and the compensation paid to former Postbank shareholders.&nbsp;
The bank has reached settlement agreements with more than 80 claimants, who collectively make up nearly 60% of all claims in this lawsuit. These agreements are settled upon the bank&#39;s suggested price of &euro;31 ($34.5) per share. Among the claimants who agreed to a settlement also represented about one-third of all claims.
In April 2024, Deutsche Bank said that it could face claims up to &euro;1.3 billion ($1.4 billion) in a legal battle with former Postbank shareholders about its 2010 takeover. The former Postbank shareholders argued that a higher price should have been offered.
Deutsche Bank anticipates that the settlement agreements reached so far will burn approximately 45% of the total provisions taken for the claims of plaintiffs covered by the agreements. The remaining provisions linked to these specific plaintiffs will be released. It is expected that this action will positively affect the bank&#39;s tax profit for the third quarter by nearly &euro;430 million ($478.6 million). If Deutsche Bank enters into settlement agreements with additional claimants, this could have a positive impact on the overall litigation provisions.
In sync with this news, on Apr 26, 2024, the Higher Regional Court of Cologne looked into claims from former Postbank shareholders. The court hinted that it might back some of these claims in a future decision. Deutsche Bank didn&#39;t agree with the court&#39;s view. Still, it noted that the court&#39;s comments could influence an estimation of future financial outflows. The provision of &euro;1.3 billion for litigation related to the Postbank takeover resulted in a loss in the second quarter of 2024.
Over the past six months, shares of DB have gained 17.1% on the NYSE compared with the industry&#39;s growth of 13.4%.

To settle investigations into its record-keeping practices, PIPR will pay $14 million to the Securities and Exchange Commission (&quot;SEC&quot;) and $2 million to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (&quot;CFTC&quot;).
At the same time, Wells Fargo (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/wfc#NYSE">WFC</a>) was also fined for its record-keeping lapses. The crackdown, led by the SEC and the CFTC, underlined the significance of keeping accurate records of employee communications in the financial industry. WFC had incurred the highest penalty among the firms targeted, amounting to $200 million.

Decibel Cannabis Company Inc. (TSXV:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DB#TSXV">DB</a>) (OTCQB:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DBCCF#OTCQB">DBCCF</a>) reported on Wednesday its unaudited interim financial results for the second quarter ending June 30, 2024.
&#8220;Decibel has shown good discipline in reducing our current liabilities by ~5mm this quarter," said Benjamin Sze, Decibel&#8217;s CEO. "Market share has been challenged but early indications from Qwest relaunch suggest we will regain market share in flower.  A continued focus on execution and capital efficiency will serve as the platform for future growth.&#8221;
The company reported net revenue of CA$22.1 million ($16.1 million), down from CA$28.5 million in the prior year's period, representing a 22% year-over-year drop. Its first quarter report published this past April revealed a 16% year-over-year revenue drop to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/05/39065170/decibel-cannabis-reports-16-yoy-drop-in-q1-revenue-ceo-expects-improved-q2-and-continued-path-to">CA$21 million and an adjusted net loss of CA$3.5 million.</a>
In his recent analysis senior analyst Pablo Zuanic of Zuanic &amp; Associates said Decibel&#8217;s management acknowledges the competitive pressures in the vape and pre-roll categories, particularly from competitors like Jeeter and Organigram.
