Shares of tech and hardware companies are trading higher following President Trump's decision to implement a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for all countries except China.

Despite President Donald Trump&#8216;s tariffs sending shockwaves through the stock market, one analyst believes the domestic automotive industry in the U.S. is poised for a surprising boost. Here is a list of potential beneficiaries and losers of the new trade policy. 
What Happened: While the tariffs of U.S. trading partners have had a damaging effect on the stock market, they have also fueled the fear of a slowdown in the economy and a possible recession.
According to John Murillo, the chief dealing officer at a global fintech solutions provider for financial institutions, B2BROKER, Trump's tariffs preemptively target metals, cars, and high-tech imports into the U.S., which seemingly spells trouble, &#8220;specifically for these sectors.&#8221;
However, he goes on to add that the &#8220;devil is always hiding in the details,&#8221; and sees the protectionist measures as a silver lining for the American automotive sector, predicting increased demand due to reduced foreign competition.
&#8220;Since tariffs are imposed on foreign cars competing with U.S. cars for consumer preferences, it will be precisely the American automotive industry that reaps the fruit of this protectionism,&#8221; Murillo told Benzinga.
Murillo states that despite the initial negative reaction following a cut in dividends by the Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) executives, &#8220;Ford and General Motors Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) will see higher demand on their production over time, which will offset all current inconveniences with reorientation for alternative foreign supply parts producers.&#8221;
&#8220;We must also not forget Donald Trump&#8216;s bet on the American oil industry,&#8221; adds Murillo, stating that he will &#8220;zealously protect American businesses, and we know that conventional energy is the subject of his special focus.&#8221; 
&#8220;He is expected to fight with big oil companies worldwide in every possible way, and this is very positive news for the U.S. oil stocks despite the current softness of oil prices,&#8221; which will especially benefit classic oil producers like Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) and Chevron Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>), according to Murillo.

Why It Matters: Tariffs are considered protectionist policies as they are taxes that a government levies on imported goods. The primary objective of tariffs is to protect domestic industries that produce the same or similar goods.
However, they could lead to an increase in the prices of goods as the cost of producing the goods domestically increases.
Murillo also highlights the companies that will lose out because of these policies in the long run.
&#8220;The most evident losers will be retail stocks, such as Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COST#NASDAQ">COST</a>) and Walmart Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>), which traditionally formed most of their margins by arbitraging Chinese wholesale versus U.S. domestic retail prices.&#8221;
&#8220;PC, server, and phone equipment manufacturers like HP Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HPQ#NYSE">HPQ</a>), Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CSCO#NASDAQ">CSCO</a>), and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) will also feel the heat because many essential parts have been delivered from China for decades,&#8221; he adds.

HP and Reincubate Enter Partnership To Deliver Personalized, NPU-Based, On-Device AI Capabilities

President Donald Trump has set up a new body within the Commerce Department to manage the CHIPS and Science Act, 2022. 
What Happened: A new entity, the United States Investment Accelerator within the Commerce Department, will now oversee the CHIPS Act program, as established by an executive order signed by Trump on Monday.
Despite Trump&#8217;s past criticism of the bipartisan legislation, the White House said in its fact sheet that the new office will focus on &#8220;negotiating much better CHIPS Act deals&#8221; and streamlining investment processes through reduced regulatory burdens and faster permitting.
According to the <a href="https://www.semiconductors.org/chip-supply-chain-investments/">Semiconductor Industry Association</a>, the CHIPS Program has granted awards worth $32.5417 billion and provided loans up to $5.85 billion to 32 companies across 23 states. 
However, the new entity — Investment Accelerator that will be controlling the CHIPS Act, not only plans to expedite corporate investments but promises to deliver &#8221; the benefit of the bargain for taxpayers,&#8221; as per the Whit House fact sheet.
Other primary goals of the body include;

Why It Matters: Trump has been vocal about his criticism of the CHIPS Act. On March 4, during his joint address to Congress, he said, &#8220;Your Chips Act is a horrible, horrible thing.&#8221;
He also urged U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson to &#8220;get rid&#8221; of it and use &#8220;whatever is left over&#8221; to &#8220;reduce debt or any other reason you want to.&#8221;
However, the White House&#8217;s new plan has passed on the management of the act to the new entity. Since his time in office, Trump has been able to convince companies to invest in the U.S.
In early March, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (NYSE: TSM revealed its plans to inject another $100 billion into U.S. advanced semiconductor manufacturing, significantly expanding its ongoing $65 billion Arizona initiative and bringing total investment to $165 billion.
Similarly, the Magnificent 7 companies are widely expected to spend more than $330 billion on capex in 2025. While the chipmaker Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) hasn't explicitly mentioned a target during its earnings call, the iPhone maker Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) broadly expects to spend $500 billion over the next four years. The remaining companies, however, have provided a specific target for 2025.

Wei&nbsp;held a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44165513/taiwan-semiconductor-ceo-taiwan-president-to-discuss-100-billion-us-expansion-not-afraid-of-losing-us-subsidies" rel="noreferrer noopener">press briefing on Thursday</a> and said it was "not afraid" of losing Washington's subsidies for its massive U.S. investments.
Earlier this week, the Taiwanese contract chipmaker announced plans to invest another $100 billion in its U.S. facilities in addition to its existing investment of $65 billion. Any additional U.S. investment made by TSMC would require Taiwan's government's approval. Taiwan maintained that the country would continue to be the key advanced semiconductor headquarters.

AI Chip Leaders Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom Slide Amid Marvell Earnings and US Policy Concerns

President Donald Trump during his joint address to Congress on Tuesday evening called for ending the CHIPS Act, which provides manufacturing incentives to semiconductor companies setting up their facilities in the U.S.
What Happened: During a primetime address to Congress on Tuesday, the president criticized the legislation, saying, "Your Chips Act is a horrible, horrible thing." Trump urged U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson to "get rid" of it and use "whatever is left over" to "reduce debt or any other reason you want to."
According to <a href="https://www.semiconductors.org/chips-incentives-awards/">Semiconductor Industry Association</a>, the CHIPS Program has fueled investments in American semiconductor manufacturing. About $38 billion in grants and loans have been awarded to 32 companies across 23 states, mobilizing over $380 billion in private investment and creating an estimated 145,000 new jobs by 2030. 
Most notably, the Departments of Defense and Commerce awarded Intel Corp. up to $3 billion in CHIPS Act funding to expand domestic manufacturing of advanced semiconductors, strengthening the U.S. supply chain for critical national security needs.
Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd., on the other hand, was the recipient of $6.6 billion worth of grants, out of which $5 billion was a loaned amount for setting up projects worth $65 billion in Phoenix, Arizona.

Why It Matters: A few hours before Trump&#8217;s Congress address, TSMC announced <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/03/44124444/taiwan-semiconductor-rises-as-100-billion-u-s-expansion-defies-market-downturn">plans to invest</a> an additional $100 billion in advanced semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. Building on a $65 billion project already underway in Arizona, this expansion brings the company&#8217;s total U.S. investment to a massive $165 billion. 
Addressing TSMC&#8217;s latest investment, Trump said, &#8220;All that was important to them was they didn't want to pay the tariffs. So they came and they're building. And many other companies are coming. We don't have to give them money, we just want to protect our businesses and our people, and they will come because they won't have to pay tariffs if they build in America.&#8221;
Price Action: The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, fell on Tuesday. U.S. stock futures rose on Friday following Thursday&#8217;s sell-off. Futures of all benchmark indices advanced in premarket trading, except the small-cap gauge Russell 2000.
Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) fell over 8% on Thursday, dragging the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 down despite the strong quarter as its gross margins fell sequentially, caused by the ramp-up in the production of its Blackwell chips.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump escalated tariff threats against Mexico and Canada, saying that it will go into effect as scheduled on March 4, in a social media post. He further threatened additional tariffs on China, following his pledge to impose 25% tariffs on the EU.
Investors await Friday&#8217;s personal consumption expenditure inflation data amid uncertainty over interest rate cuts as it is the Federal Reserve&#8217;s preferred inflation gauge.
The 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.25%, while the two-year yield was at 4.05%. According <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">to</a> the CME Group's FedWatch tool, there is a 94.5% chance that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged for the March meeting.

Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DELL#NYSE">DELL</a>) declined after missing revenue estimates, whereas, SoundHound AI Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOUN#NASDAQ">SOUN</a>) rose in after-hours after beating analyst expectations. Rocket Lab USA Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RKLB#NASDAQ">RKLB</a>) shares dropped after a weak first-quarter guidance.
Economic data showed a slight upward revision to fourth quarter GDP according to its second reading released on Thursday. Also, initial jobless claims rose by 22,000 from the previous week to 242,000, the most in over two months and above market expectations of 221,000.

George Smith, portfolio strategist at LPL Financial highlighted his take on investor sentiment by analyzing survey data from the American Association of Individual Investors and Bank of America Global Fund Manager Survey.
AAII&#8217;s latest sentiment survey reveals significantly bearish sentiment among individual investors for the fourth consecutive week, with the bull-bear spread at a 10-year high. This extreme bearishness, viewed through a contrarian lens, could be a positive signal for stocks, said Smith.
However, the BofA Global Fund Manager Survey presents a more mixed picture, with professional investors cautiously optimistic about the economy but concerned about overvalued U.S. equities. Overall, these surveys suggest a relatively neutral market outlook, aligning with LPL Research&#8217;s neutral stance on equities due to a balance of positive and negative factors, explained Smith.

HP Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HPQ#NYSE">HPQ</a>) reported its first-quarter results after Thursday's closing bell. Here's a look at the key figures<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/g44025322/hp-inc-reports-fiscal-2025-first-quarter-results"> from the report. </a>
The Details:&nbsp;&nbsp;HP reported quarterly earnings of&nbsp;74&nbsp;cents per share, in line with the analyst consensus estimate. Quarterly revenue came in at $13.5 billion&nbsp;which beat the analyst consensus estimate of&nbsp;$13.36 billion&nbsp;and is an&nbsp;increase over sales of&nbsp;$13.19 billion&nbsp;from the same period last year.

First quarter segment results: 
Personal Systems
<ul>
<li>Personal Systems net revenue was $9.2 billion, up 5% year over year (up 5% in constant currency) with a 5.5% operating margin. </li>
<li>Consumer PS net revenue was down 7% and Commercial PS net revenue was up 10%. </li>
<li>Total units were down 1% with Consumer PS units down 11% and Commercial PS units up 6%.</li>
</ul>
Printing
<ul>
<li>Printing net revenue was $4.3 billion, down 2% year over year (down 1% in constant currency) with a 19% operating margin. </li>
<li>Consumer Printing net revenue was up 5% and Commercial Printing net revenue was down 7%. Supplies net revenue was down 1% (flat in constant currency). </li>
<li>Total hardware units were up 5%, with Consumer Printing units up 7% and Commercial Printing units flat.</li>
</ul>
&#8220;We are pleased with our first quarter performance, achieving revenue growth for the third straight quarter and advancing our strategy to lead the future of work,&#8221; said Enrique Lores, HP president and CEO.
&#8220;Our progress was fueled by a strong commercial business in Personal Systems and momentum in our key growth areas, including AI PCs. We are focused on taking decisive action to address evolving market conditions in the near-term while investing in our long-term growth,&#8221; Lores added.
Outlook:&nbsp;HP sees second-quarter adjusted earnings of between 75 cents and 85 cents per share, versus the 86 cent estimate, and fiscal 2025 earnings between&nbsp;$3.45 and $3.75&nbsp;per share, versus the $3.75&nbsp;estimate.
